Don't you just love how politicians in both parties use rhetorical fallacies to trick us into overlooking important information. in the democratic debate former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used rhetorical fallacies a decent amount. at one point during the debate she stated " I never took a position on Keystone until I took a position on Keystone" in this quote she went back on what she had just said, this was probably done to make both the people who oppose the keystone pipeline and keystone happy. This use of rhetoric really caught my eye because it made no sense almost as if clinton wanted attention drawn to it. But did her rhetoric work? Well maybe, because it hasn't really been talked about, many people are just ignoring it entirely or people are genuinely feel for the rhetoric. it is interesting to see how politicians of any position or party use rhetoric, but sometimes it stands out more than others.
In the last couple of blogs I have been talking about articles and the political debate, but we're do I get my information about the world? (Who am I asking to answer this question, how would you know what I read or watch?) Well I mainly get my information about the world from school (I know it's unoriginal but is true, I do tend to get all my political information from school and I watch the news or look at the news online. Because it's school this source tends to show multiple perspectives on a topic, but sometimes personal bias can slips in. I notice this in scenarios we evaluate in humanity's class were most of the protagonists in the scenarios tend to be female, though I don't have a problem with this I do notice it. Though a bias like that has no affect on most topics it does make me wonder what other biases teachers subconsciously include in class work. It is also interesting to think about how teachers tend to have similar likes political views like explained in the book the Great Sort were we move ourselves to areas with similar views to our own.
In the article ”The Tyranny of the Nanny State” I found it crazy that we as a society allow such an intrusive government oversight to happen. It’s like if your teacher or boss grabbed your phone and searched through it and fired/expelled you because you wrote something they didn't like to your friend. In the article a woman was arrested because she let her kids play out in the cul de sac right outside her house. Nowadays we have become so dumbed down that we just accept what our government tells us to believe. look at Common Core, the government wanted a system of learning that creates dependency to try to create a generation of workers. Ops, I forgot to take of my tinfoil hat. Well this article though very bias did call to attention how much our government tries to control us.
In class we read an article called “Women Are Underrepresented In Politics” talking about how women will tend to sell themselves short when it comes to running for a high political position like “president” and how it’s not because they worry about how it will affect their family like the common misconception, but based on how they and their backers perceive the difficulty of running for a political position is for a women athow it tends to be equal to men. I found this article interesting not because of how it talked about women and the challenges they face in politics but because of how it is another example of how we stereotype ourselves and each other. I see this all the time in my life like because of the fact that I am a caucasian male people assume that I have it easy, when in fact I deal with severe dislexya and I struggle in school because of it. But we as a society focus on a person's gender or ethnicity assuming life is harder or easier based on just that. In this article it mentions that women perceive getting into politics is two times harder than it is for males, and by doing this it is creating a self fulfilling prophecy that in turn is making it harder for women to get into politics. I like the fact that this article brings light to that fact instead of perpetuating it further.
Out of all the candidates I found that Carson was the one that won the debate because what he said was truthful. I know this because nothing he said was incorrect, this is because of the fact that he did not appear on the fact checker websites. I also like the fact that he is a medical doctor and therefore does not know how to use the doublespeak like the other politicians. He even fact checked Trump when he claimed that vaccines cause autism. I think Carson won the debate because he is smart and he has, as a doctor been trained not to lie.
The biggest political issues facing our presidential candidates are the massive debut, planned Parenthood, immigration, radical Islam, and national security.
Today I will be talking about candidate Donald Trump because he is the most controversial. He has been very vocal the in the past about immigration. Though I feel we should enforce our immigration laws more strictly trumps idea about deporting every immigrant over the span of two years is stupid and illogical and will cause lots of issues for everyone. My question to all of the presidential candidates on both sides is how can you ensure what you are promising won't just swept under the rug. |
