Model Senate
|
Model senate is a project where we take the role of a senator and go through a condensed version of what it would take to to pass a bill. each group of two students created a bill, then a group of students chose two bills that would be presented, amended, debated, and voted on in the model senate. During model senate we need to act and vote as the senator we were assigned, this processes involved a lot of research to so we would know how our senator would vote on any bill. My senator, Dan Sullivan was on the EPW committee as a chairman, my role was to vote on the bills. The Honors students took up other roles as well, like being the President and singing the voted on bill. this project was interesting because it demonstrated how much work goes into making and passing a bill as well as demonstrating some of congresses problems like, the amount of time the process takes and even “filibustering” but this project gave me a new respect for the process of congress.

Writing Reflection
My first goal for this semester is to improve my spelling and grammar. This problem is something I may not be able to fix but I can improve it. luckily I don't have any example of this because I luckily have people who help me fix the spelling and grammar. for me to improve I must continue to wright and improve my spelling and grammar through repetition.
The next goal I have it to make sure that I set up the topics. I tend to forget to set up my topics, this leads to the reader of my writing being confused as to what I am talking about. this is an example of what I am talking about “One of the questions asked during the seminar was “Do you think that we are living under the tyranny of the majority in the US today?” and I think we are because of things like social media showing us what millions of people believe and support. Before we had such easy access to the opinion of others we were more Isolated and were more likely to form our own opinions”. in this you can’t tell that I am talking about Tocqueville. I just need to improve on making sure I explain the topic in the first paragraph.
Sumthing else I need to improve upon is to increase the length of my work. because I have dyslexia and it takes me a lot more time to write, so naturally I tend to edit my writing to to make it as short and and as concise I possibly can to reduce that amount of actual writing I need to do. this comes at the cost of quality. you can see this in the writing above were my actual writing is very short. I will try to make my work more in depth but it will require more time to finish.

4th Amendment Project
In this mini-project, we explored our rights as citizens, specifically related to the fourth and fifth amendments. traffic stops, and search and seizure. Then we used the information we learned to create a PSA like art piece that depicts how the the 4th amendment affects different situations.
In this project I looked at how police drones changed how surveillance is conducted and how the 4th amendment controls this. I chose to do this topic because I have recently been able to see this unique perspective and the information that can be gained from it. By seeing this technology in use made me question how it affects the 4th amendment and made me want to go deeper into the question. |
