Brave new world project
project REFLECTIONOne challenge I had to face was the fact that I have a hard time with writing. An example of this would be my hard time with spelling and typing quickly. The importance of this is the fact that I was down to the last minute trying to write my story.
I feel that I have grown as a student with the fact that I have made my own story. An example of this would be how I made my story very descriptive. I have learned that I can make a good story if I have the time. Something I want to remember is to not procrastinate. An example of how this would be good is it will relieve the stress I have when I'm out of time on a project/assignment. A way I can fix this, is by doing it as soon as I get the project. It would also help if I run out of time to ask for an extension before the project is due. The thing that I'm most proud of would be the fact that I made it through the project. A good example of why, is how much time and effort was put in to the project. It is also nice to know that I can get through a project without needing to worry too much. |

MUN
We were assigned a country to represent. We needed to discover the country's perspective on a certain issue. Then we had a exhibition where we modeled a real UN debate. Ours was on the Israel Palestine issue. During this project we also did a mock version on the North Korea issue. After all that work I am glad that it turned out as great as it did.
Project ReflectionSome advice I would give would be to prepare for lots of writing. Also, come to the exhibition confident with your speech. And bear in mind that this project does have an end. Last of all, have confidence in yourself.
I think this project overall was interesting, but at the same time extremely difficult especially for me because of all of the writing. During the conference I displayed evidence most of all. I also stuck to my prospective during the conference. If I could start over I would make sure that I was using MLA format correctly. I would also make sure that I had more insight on who owned Israel before anyone else. Lastly, I would make sure that I commented more and make sure that I make an amendment by myself. The most interesting speech that I have heard was when a speaker said that a country was going to do something and then another country reacts in a funny way. An example would be when some delegates said that other countries would be responsible for certain actions and then the delegates from those countries stated that they would not support that. The comments were also very interesting and insightful. The comment about the debate taking 15 minutes longer and one of the parents objected to that. |

Israel/Palestine Issue Is There a Solution? The General Assembly, Recognizing that Palestine has taken the refugees rights away, Gravely concerned that this issue is out of hand” poll of 18 countries finds that in 14 of them, people mostly say their government should not take sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict”, Recoiling, the UN has not enforced previous resolutions, Noting Israel is expanding its borders uncontrollably, Acknowledging that there is a lot of aggression between the two countrys ”first recorded violent incidents between Arabs and Jews in Palestine was the accidental shooting dead of an Arab man in Safed, during a wedding in December 1882”, Aware that neither Israel or Palestine can agree at the same time, Concerned that Palestine can’t absorb the refugees, Taking into consideration this conflict has continued for many decades, Keeping In mind the United Kingdom invaded the land that is now Israel and gave it to the Jewish community” There has not been any relevant Jewish community in Spain since the expulsion decree of March 1492”, 1. Encourages the UN to find reasonable solutions such as; A. Creating a resolution that considers both sides, B. Creating an enforcement that will let the refugees have their rights back in any country, C. Creating a non attack agreement, 2. Accepts the use of sanctions if an consensus is not made; 3. Communicates that both parties cease aggression immediately; 4. Expects that all involved countries don’t try to solve the problem by starting a world war; 5. Country perspective paperNavratil 1
Brandon N Sara Price 9th Model UN March 11, 2013 Spain Policy Paper Although Palestinians once lived in Israel, Spain believes that it is the only country that the Jews are welcome in. Israel is the only place where the Jewish people have been able to find a home. The jaws that reside in Israel have been kicked out of most countries that they have lived in including Palestine states. This is the reason Spain has been protective of them spin feels a moral obligation (Europe and Palestine). The United Kingdom concord Israel and gave it to the Jewish people. During this period people that lived in Israel moved to the surrounding countries and became refugees. The to this day surrounding Palestine states have been keeping the refuges looked down and have removed their rights, this seems to be a sort of leverage to get Israel to let the refugees back in. If this happens then as a Palestinian politician stated “Israel would become a pristine country”. The UN has been playing along with this and has created a new division for the Palestine refugees; this new division is designed to give the refugees less in order to make it look like the refugees need to move to Israel to solve all of the problems going on with them. This is a very big problem and it needs to be resolved immediately. To solve this problem the refugees need to get their rights back and allowed to settle in the Palestine states. This is the best solution Palestine has enough room for the refugees if they are spread out enough they will not change the dynamics of the states. If they are put back into Israel there will be food shortages and there will not be enough room for both states to live. Palestine needs to get over its greed and let the refugees have their rights back. If need be military action may be used if they continue to neglect the refugees and deprive them of their rights. To help this along the UN will provide help in making the transition as smooth as possible. And Palestine will be compensated for these changes. Palestine may no longer attack is real unless Israel is the aggressor in the situation. "Views on the Arab–Israeli Conflict." Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, 03 July 2013. Web. 11 Mar. 2013. Greek tragedy play project
In the Greek tragedy we had to make a play that depicted our social issue. We also had to show multiple perspectives, and we had to make the reader/watcher feel empathy toward the main character.
The part about my project that I am most proud of is the entire project. I spent so much time on it that I like the entire thing. If I had to choose only one part it would be the last part of scene 2 where all of the dialog is synchronized perfectly. the dialog in that part went together so well it sounded like they recorded it at the same time.
Some of the challenges I faced was my partner would get off task and distracted. My partner also helped correct my spelling. My partner did some of the voice acting.
I pretty much made the entire project so there isn't much else that I could have done. I did everything in my power to make this movie and put my hard work into it.
If you have a partner, make sure that the partner is hard working and can help make your project a beautiful piece of work. Also try to get your first draft done in a timely manner to avoid doing it at the last minute. You should also make your project interesting so it is fun to look at.

Social Projections
Have you ever wondered how your gender has affected how others interact with you, or how it socializes you? Socialization is how we interact with each other. It is all around us like the movie Tough Guise, which is a movie about how men hide their true selves or others like Princess Boy a book about a boy who likes to wear dresses. As a class we watched Ma Vie en Rose which is a foreign film about a boy going through an identity crisis. This film gave us ideas of stereotypes. We don’t notice it but we are all affected by gender socialization. I believe that our roles in society are given to us because of our ideas of what gender is.
We have learned a lot about gender socialization and how we are taught to act a certain way. One day we watched a video called Tough Guise where Jackson Katz states "men are trapped in a box held back by words like fag, wuss, wimp, and sissy”. The media and peer pressure is what keeps every person in line with how they are supposed to be. Men are also encouraged by women to be tough and strong and not show feelings that would make them seem weak. Because men are socialized to be tough and strong they learn to become violent, so they act in a violent way against both men and women to show their strength. If men or boys don’t follow these norms they are subject to ridicule by the society they live in. I also have been told to act tough and not show my feelings.
When the society’s norms are broken by a person they will be forced back into the accepted gender norms or if that fails, then society will rebel against that person, like in the movie Ma Vie en Rose. In Ma Vie en Rose, the boy and his family are verbally attacked by their neighbors to the point of leaving their home and moving somewhere else. This movie displays what happens in real society when someone breaks
norms or when society’s norms are challenged. Another thing the movie shows us is how the person who is breaking the norms feels when others are judging and rejecting them. At one point in the movie the protagonist tries to commit suicide by freezing himself in the family’s large freezer, because he felt that no one wanted him anymore and that if he killed himself life would be easier for his family. He went against gender norms, so society was forcing him to pay a price for that. We need to learn to accept people for who they are to stop this from happening.
People who do follow the gender norms most likely will end up with jobs based on what gender they are. An example of this is the idea that men are supposed to do the more physical jobs like construction, and women are supposed to do less physically demanding jobs like a receptionist. Because of gender norms women are most likely to end up in jobs like nursing or child care where gentleness and kindness are required. On the other hand, men are supposed to do jobs that require strength, toughness and no emotional weakness, like being a police officer, construction worker, or military service. Although, now days we see those roles flipping, more men are becoming nurses and women are becoming police officers because society is becoming less bias about gender. The norms are still affecting the career choices people make. Now my question is how does this affect the way my generation and I make choices for our future? I have not been told what job I should be in which means that society hasn’t yet pushed its influence on me.
How does gender socialization affect me in modern day society? I think that I am expected to be tough and strong like a “real man”. But really, I am more sensitive and smart than I am tough and strong. As an example, my stepdad has always wanted me to watch football when I wanted to watch Doctor Who. I hope that in the future these things are valued and not looked down on. Because of the way that I am, I hang out with more sensitive people who accept me and don’t judge me. I hope these traits that I have will be a part of me for the rest of my life and help me in the challenges to come.
In the design of my mask I wanted to make it changeable so I designed it so I could project the images on the surface of the mask. My mask will be a collage of how we see gender in society. One collage I made represents what we are encouraged to be like. The other collage shows images of men that are not encouraged. My mask also helps portray the message of my essay.

Reflection
Last year we had Socratic seminars about topics in humanities I also had exhibitions which were similar to the one we had for the mask project. Last year I also did projects in the same way we did the last month. I am really proud of how my mask was the only one like it. Also it got a lot of attention. “Have you ever wondered how your gender has affected how others interact with you, or how it socializes you?” I'm proud of this line because it sets the theme for the rest of the paper. I want to take the knowledge that I did something original. |
